Why go
The sixth-largest cathedral in the world was built in English Gothic style over 83 years and finished in 1990. Inside are soaring stone vaults, more than 200 stained-glass windows, one of which holds a piece of moon rock, and memorials to national figures. Outside, look for the gargoyles and grotesques, among them Darth Vader high on the northwest tower.
Tips
- Bring binoculars, or a good zoom on your phone, to spot Darth Vader.
- Attending a service, such as Evensong, is free and a lovely way to hear the organ and choir.
