About the Lists

What is MoBeaCi?

A short list of the places worth your trip, for every continent, country and region. Instead of hundreds of options, we pick the few that give a first-time visitor most of the experience. More about us.

What do Must-See, Worth a Detour and If You're Nearby mean?

Must-See is worth planning a trip around. Worth a Detour is worth an extra day. If You're Nearby is worth it when you're close. A place can rank differently on different lists: a city can be Must-See for its region and If You're Nearby for the whole country.

How do you choose places?

Our editors judge whether a first-time visitor from abroad would change their plans for it, and we check how widely the world knows it, so the list stays free of trivia. Facts such as hours and prices are checked against official sources, and every guide shows when it was last checked. How We Rank.

Do businesses pay to be listed?

No. Nobody pays to be on a list, and we never hide or remove a review because a business asks or pays us to.

Is MoBeaCi free?

Yes. Browsing, lists, ranks and reviews are all free.

Your Lists and Ranks

How do I mark a place as visited?

Press Been There on any place or sight. You don't need an account: your visits are kept in your browser, and they move to your account when you sign in.

How do ranks work?

Every list has four ranks:

  • Sailor: Your first place on the list.
  • Voyager: Half the Must-See and Worth a Detour places.
  • Navigator: Every Must-See and Worth a Detour place.
  • Captain: Every place on the list.

See your progress under Your Travels → Ranks.

Who are the Top Travelers on a list?

The travelers with public profiles who have been to the most places on that list, with their rank. It's our way of recognizing the people who know an area best. See All Travelers lists everyone by rank, Captains first, and can show only travelers based in your country. Ranks also appear beside reviewers' names and under the name on each profile. A private profile never appears in any of these. On a city guide, the list is the city's sights, so marking the city itself doesn't count toward it.

How does following work?

Press Follow on a traveler's profile, or next to anyone in Top Travelers. Following, in the avatar menu, shows the places they've been and the reviews they've written lately. They get a notification that you followed them. You can follow public profiles only, and who follows whom is public, like the profiles themselves.

Can I share my year of travel?

Yes. In Your Travels → Travel Map, open a year under Year by Year and press Share Your Year. The card shows only the year, your counts and a few places, never your name.

Can I share my rank?

Yes. When you earn a rank, use Share Your Rank to make a picture card for social media. It shows only the list, your rank and your count.

Planning a Trip

How do I save places for later?

Press Want to Go on any place or sight, or the bookmark on a card. Your list is in Your Travels, where you can see what's at its best this month. It's private, and once you've been somewhere, pressing Been There takes it off the list.

How do trips work?

Press Plan a Trip With These on your Want to Go list, or Plan This Route on any classic route. We arrange the stops so each one is close to the last and split them into days of about seven hours; then move, add or remove stops as you like. Trips need an account and are private. Find them under Your Travels → Trips.

How do I find the best time to go?

When to Go shows what's at its best each month, with festivals and seasons worth timing a trip around. Place pages show their best months too.

How does Near Me use my location?

When you press Use My Location, your browser shares your position with the page, and distances are worked out on your device. Your location is never sent to us or stored.

Can I use a guide without a connection?

Yes. Open a city guide and press Save Offline. The guide, its sight pages and photos are kept on that device; maps still need a connection. Manage saved guides under Your Travels → Offline.

Will you tell me if a place I saved changes?

Yes, if you're signed in. When an important change is made to a place on your Want to Go list, such as a closure or new hours, you'll get a notification (the bell at the top), and Your Travels marks places updated since you saved them.

Reviews

Who can write a review?

Anyone signed in who has marked the place as visited. One review per place, and you can edit or delete it at any time.

What makes a good review?

Your own honest experience of the place: what was worth it, what wasn't, and one tip for the next visitor. No links, no advertising, nothing personal about other people.

Why was my review hidden?

A moderator hid it because it broke the review rules, or three readers reported it and it's waiting to be checked. The reason is shown with your review under Your Travels → Reviews. If you think we got it wrong, email support@mobeaci.com.

How do I report a review?

Sign in and click Report under the review. Choose a reason and, if you like, add a note. Moderators review every report.

Your Account

How do I sign in?

With Google, or with a sign-in link sent to your email. Email links work once, last an hour, and work on any device, so you can ask on your laptop and open it on your phone.

Can I change my username or hide my profile?

Yes. Open your profile from the avatar menu and press Edit Profile. You can change your name and photo there too. A private profile hides your profile page and visits, and your reviews show as “A MoBeaCi traveler”.

How do I download or delete my data?

In Account Settings, under Your Data. Deleting your account removes your visits and reviews for good. See our Privacy Policy.

Can I see distances in kilometers or prices in my currency?

Yes. Use the sliders icon at the top of every page to choose miles or kilometers, °F or °C, and your currency. We remember your choice.

Corrections

Something on a page is wrong or out of date. How do I tell you?

Use Suggest an Edit at the bottom of the place or sight page. An editor checks it, and we'll let you know on your account when the page is updated.

We missed a place you love.

Tell us at info@mobeaci.com. We can't add everything (that's the point), but every suggestion is considered.
