Why Go
The dome was covered in copper by Paul Revere's company and later gilded with gold leaf. A carved wooden codfish has hung in the House chamber since the 1700s as a symbol of the fishing that made the colony rich. Across the street, the Robert Gould Shaw Memorial honors the Black soldiers of the 54th Massachusetts.
