Why Go

The City Hall, begun in 1376, is one of the oldest in the Low Countries; its Gothic Hall has a carved wooden vault and murals of the city's history.

In the corner, the Basilica of the Holy Blood has a dark Romanesque lower chapel from the 12th century and an ornate upper chapel. Its relic, said to hold drops of Christ's blood, is carried through the streets every Ascension Day in the Procession of the Holy Blood.
