Why Go

Munthe built the villa from the 1890s on the ruins of a chapel and a Roman villa, and wrote of it in his best-selling The Story of San Michele. Its loggias are filled with ancient fragments, and a granite sphinx gazes out over the gulf from the end of the garden.
