Why Go

The Rosenberg family, and later the Eggenbergs and Schwarzenbergs, grew a 13th-century castle into a complex of 40 buildings and five courtyards, painted with false stonework. Guided tours show the Renaissance rooms, the baroque Masquerade Hall and the castle's treasures; the round tower has the best view of the town.

Bears have been kept in the castle moat since the 18th century, and the multi-level Cloak Bridge crosses a ravine to the gardens.
