Why Go

Chania's Jews were arrested by the Germans in May 1944 and died when the ship carrying them away was sunk. The synagogue, a former Venetian church in the old Jewish quarter, was left in ruins until it was restored and reopened in 1999, with a quiet garden and memorial.
