Getting There
About 45 minutes by train from Copenhagen Central Station to Helsingør, then a 15-minute walk.

Why Go

For centuries, ships passing through the Øresund paid tolls to the Danish king, and Kronborg, rebuilt in its present Renaissance form in the 1570s and 1580s, guarded the strait. Shakespeare set Hamlet here, at Elsinore. Visitors see the royal apartments, the great ballroom and the dark casemates, where a statue of Holger the Dane sleeps until Denmark needs him.
