Why Go

A royal castle has stood on the rock since at least the 12th century. Inside are the Honours of Scotland, the oldest crown jewels in Britain, the Stone of Destiny used at coronations, the giant medieval cannon Mons Meg and tiny St Margaret's Chapel, the oldest building in the city.

The One O'Clock Gun is fired from its walls every day except Sunday.

Tips

  • Book a morning slot and go straight to the crown jewels before the queues.
