Getting There
About an hour by car from Flåm, through the Lærdal Tunnel, 15 miles long and the longest road tunnel in the world.

Why Go

Built around 1200 entirely of wood, the church rises in stacked roofs like a pagoda, with dragon heads on the gables to ward off evil. It has hardly changed in 800 years, and a visitor center explains how the stave churches were built.
