Why Go

The Hvítá river drops in two stages into a crevice 70 meters deep, raising clouds of spray that throw rainbows on sunny days. A farmer's daughter, Sigríður Tómasdóttir, fought to save the falls from a hydropower scheme in the early 20th century, and a memorial to her stands above them.
