Cataloochee Valley

A remote valley in North Carolina where elk returned in 2001, with historic homes and churches. A long way from the crowds.

Why Go

Dawn and dusk are the times to see elk. It's reached by a narrow, winding gravel road, and it's lovely in the fall rut.
