Getting There
A few minutes by bus or boat from Hallstatt to Obertraun.

Why Go

The Krippenstein cable car climbs from Obertraun, at the far end of the lake, in stages. The first stop is for the Giant Ice Cave and the Mammoth Cave; at the top, the 5fingers platform reaches out over a drop of 400 meters, with Hallstatt far below. The Dachstein massif and its glaciers rise to almost 3,000 meters behind.

Tips

  • The ice cave stays below freezing all summer: bring a warm layer.
