Harriet Tubman's Eastern Shore

Maryland

Tubman was born near here around 1822. A state and national visitor center at Church Creek tells her story, in the landscape she knew. A self-guided byway, with dozens of sites, runs along the Choptank River, and north through Delaware into Pennsylvania. Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge next door has eagles and geese.
