Why Go

First built of wood and rebuilt in stone between the 13th and 15th centuries, the fortress guarded a crossing of the Dniester on the old border between Moldavia and Poland. Its walls stand 40 meters high in places, and in 1621 a Polish–Lithuanian and Cossack army held off a far larger Ottoman force beneath them.
