Why Go

Legend says fishermen found an icon of the Virgin on a rock here in 1452, and sailors began dropping stones and sinking old ships around it. The church, finished in 1632, is hung with silver votive plaques and paintings by Tripo Kokolja. Every July 22, locals row out to throw more stones.

Beside it, the natural island of St. George holds a Benedictine monastery, closed to visitors.
