Why Go
About 100 people died in the fire, and most of the historic town was destroyed. The 150-year-old banyan tree survived. Parts of West Maui's coast remain open, but the burn zone isn't a sightseeing stop. Check what's reopened, and don't photograph damaged areas.
West Maui's businesses depend on visitors, and residents have asked that you come with respect.
Tips
- Stay out of restricted areas. Support local businesses in West Maui.
