Why Go

The black beach of Pa'iloa is one of Hawaii's most-photographed. A coastal trail crosses old lava to Hana, and the freshwater caves have a legend of their own. Closures have occurred recently, so check the state park site.

Book a parking slot and entry at gowaianapanapa.com, and don't arrive without one.

Tips

  • Swimming here is dangerous when the surf is up.
