Why Go
Built in 1566 for Suleiman the Magnificent, the bridge was one of the great engineering works of its age, a single arch about 29 meters long. Croat forces shelled it into the river in November 1993; it was rebuilt by 2004 with stone from the same quarries, some pieces raised from the riverbed.
Divers leap from its top, about 20 meters, into the icy water. The museum in the Tara tower shows the excavations and a film of the bridge's destruction and rebuilding.
