Why Go
Thousands of ships have gone down off the Outer Banks, where warm and cold currents meet over shifting sand. The museum, in a building shaped like a ship's hull, covers shipwrecks and lifesavers, the Civil War ironclad USS Monitor, and the "Torpedo Junction" of 1942, when German submarines sank ships within sight of these beaches.
