Why Go

Built in the 1st century AD, it carried water about 31 miles to the Roman city of Nîmes on a slope so gentle that the whole channel drops only about 12 meters. A museum explains how it was built, and in summer people swim and picnic on the rocks of the Gardon below the arches.
