Why Go

Built early in the 1st century AD, the theater keeps its stage wall, 37 meters high, with a statue of Augustus in its center niche; Louis XIV called it the finest wall in his kingdom. Opera is still staged here in summer, and a triumphal arch stands at the edge of town.
