Why Go

Guðjón Samúelsson designed it in 1937 to echo the basalt columns of Iceland's lava, and it took from 1945 to 1986 to build. At 74.5 meters, it's one of the tallest buildings in the country, and its great organ has more than 5,000 pipes.

A lift climbs the tower to windows looking out over the city, the bay and the mountains. In front stands a statue of Leif Erikson, a gift from the United States in 1930.
