Why Go

Juan Sebastián Elcano, who completed Magellan's voyage around the world in 1522, was born here. Restaurants grill turbot over coals in the streets, vineyards of txakoli cover the hills, and a museum on the hill is devoted to the fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga, another son of the town.
