Getting There
Bus from Fira, about 25 minutes, or the caldera path on foot.

Why Go

Oia's captains' houses and cave homes were rebuilt after an earthquake in 1956. Crowds gather at the ruined castle at the end of the village to watch the sun sink beyond the caldera; below, steps lead down to the tiny harbor of Ammoudi.

Tips

  • Find your spot an hour or more before sunset in summer.
