On Franklin Square, near City Market.

Why Go

The congregation dates to 1773. Enslaved and free members built the brick church on Franklin Square by night after their own work, finishing in 1859. Patterns drilled in the floorboards are believed to have let air into a hiding space below for people on the Underground Railroad.
