Why Go

The church grew over three centuries, but its fame is the paintings of 1259, with lifelike faces of saints and of the church's patrons, Sevastokrator Kaloyan and his wife Desislava. It's a UNESCO site, and visitors go in small groups for a few minutes to protect the frescoes.
