Why Go

Eero Saarinen's arch was finished in 1965 to honor the westward expansion of the United States. Five-seat pods carry you up inside its legs in four minutes to a narrow observation deck with views up to 30 miles. Under the arch, a free museum tells the story of the West, from Lewis and Clark to the gold rush.

Tips

  • Book a tram time ahead; the pods are small, so skip it if you're claustrophobic.
