- Buses and taxis go up from Tirupati, about 20 km; many walk the steps.
Why Go
Pilgrims wait for hours, often days, for a brief view of the idol, and many give up their hair at the tonsure hall. The Chola, Pallava and Vijayanagara kings all gave gifts to it, making it among the richest temples.
Tips
- Book a special entry slot online well ahead to cut the wait. Non-Hindus sign a declaration of faith at the gate.
