About 15 minutes by car north of Siena, just off the Florence road.

Why Go

Siena built the fortress in the 13th century to guard its northern border with Florence. Its circle of walls and 14 towers is so striking that Dante compared it to giants standing in a ring in his Inferno. Walk a stretch of the ramparts for the view.
