Getting There
Through the lanes or by boat from Dashashwamedh Ghat.

Why Go

Hindus believe that dying and being cremated here frees the soul. Wood is stacked high, and funerals go on day and night, with families at the river's edge.

Watch quietly and respectfully from a distance or a boat. Be wary of people asking for money for wood or claiming to be staff.

Tips

  • No photos: it's a funeral.
