Why Go

Its present form, like a Greek temple, dates from 1783–1801, on a site where pagan Lithuanians are said to have worshipped their thunder god. Inside, the Chapel of St. Casimir, from the 1630s, is a jewel of marble and stucco.

On the square, a tile marked 'stebuklas', or miracle, shows where the Baltic Way, a human chain of two million people, ended in 1989.
