Five miles south of Gardiner, at the North Entrance.

Why Go

The boardwalks climb through travertine terraces, shaped by water and bacteria. The Army ran the park from 1886 to 1918, and its stone buildings at Fort Yellowstone are now park offices and a visitor center.

Just north, at Gardiner, is the Roosevelt Arch, where Theodore Roosevelt laid the cornerstone in 1903.
