The Narrows
A hike up the Virgin River itself, between thousand-foot walls. You walk in the water, and it's one of the world's great hikes.
The Narrows and other slot canyons close without warning for flood risk. Toxic algae are present, so keep your head out of the water, and don't drink it.Checked November 2, 2026 · Latest

Start at the end of the Riverside Walk and go as far as you like: Wall Street, about 3 miles in, is the classic turning point. Rent neoprene socks, boots and a stick in Springdale.
Tips
- Check the flash-flood forecast the same morning. Rangers post it, and these floods kill. Don't drink the water, and watch for toxic algae warnings.
