Why Go

Henry the Navigator lived here, and ships sailed from Lagos to chart the coast of Africa. On the main square stands the building where captured Africans were auctioned in 1444, one of the first slave sales of the Atlantic trade; it's now a small museum on that history. The Church of Santo António glows with carved and gilded wood.
