Why Go

Its Gallery of Honour leads to Rembrandt's huge Night Watch, being restored in a glass chamber where you can watch the work. Around it hang Vermeer's Milkmaid, Frans Hals's portraits and some 8,000 objects, from ship models to dolls' houses.

The building itself, from 1885, has a bike path running right through it.
