Why Go
Guarded by two bronze lions on Michigan Avenue, the Art Institute holds about 300,000 works spanning 5,000 years. Its Impressionist and Post-Impressionist galleries are among the best outside Paris, and American icons like Nighthawks and American Gothic hang in its galleries of American art. The Modern Wing by Renzo Piano connects to Millennium Park.
Tips
- Buy tickets online and go straight to the second floor for the Impressionists before the crowds.
