Why Go

Opened in 2004 over old rail yards, Millennium Park is one of the most successful public spaces in America. Cloud Gate, the polished steel sculpture everyone calls the Bean, reflects the skyline and the crowds; the Crown Fountain's towers show the faces of Chicagoans spouting water; and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion hosts free concerts and films all summer. The Lurie Garden is a quiet escape.

Tips

  • Visit the Bean early in the morning for photos without crowds.
  • Skating rink in winter; the Christmas tree is lit in late November.
