Why Go

Greek and Roman Epidaurum stood here before its people fled north and founded Dubrovnik. Paths around the peninsula lead to swimming spots, and the cemetery on the hilltop holds the white marble Račić Mausoleum, carved by Croatia's great sculptor.

The painter Vlaho Bukovac was born here, and his house is a museum.
