Getting There
The main entrance is just inside the Pile Gate; there are others by the Ploče Gate and St. John's Fort.

Why Go

The walls took their present shape in the 14th to 16th centuries and run unbroken for 1,940 meters around the Old Town, up to 25 meters high, with towers and forts at the corners. The round Minčeta Tower is the highest point, with a view over the whole city.

The walk goes one way, counterclockwise, with stairs up and down; there's little shade.

Tips

  • Start when the walls open, before the heat and the cruise crowds, and carry water.
