Why Go

The funicular has climbed from Starý Smokovec since 1908, rebuilt in its present form in 2007. From the top at 1,285 meters, paths lead down through the forest past a string of waterfalls on the Studený potok, or up the valleys to the mountain huts. In winter it's a small ski area for families.
