Getting There
By cab or auto, about 11 km west of the Charminar. Combine it with the Qutb Shahi tombs, close by.

Why Go

The Kakatiyas began Golconda as a mud fort and the Qutb Shahis rebuilt it in stone as their capital, with miles of walls and a hilltop palace. It fell to Aurangzeb in 1687 after a long siege.

The famous trick is at the entrance: a clap under the Fateh Darwaza dome is said to carry to the top of the hill, where it warned the palace of visitors. Climb up for the view across the tombs and the city.

Tips

  • Wear proper shoes: the climb is steep and uneven.
  • Bring water; there's little at the top.
