Why Go

Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah built the Charminar in 1591 as the centerpiece of his new city, and it's still where the old city's roads meet. Each of its four arches faces a street, and a small mosque sits on the top floor.

The monument takes less time than the streets around it. Come for the view down the bazaars, then walk into them.

Tips

  • Have Irani chai at one of the old cafes a few steps away.
  • Walk into Laad Bazaar straight afterward: it starts at the monument's west side.
