Why Go

Alfama survived the 1755 earthquake, and its tangle of streets dates back to Moorish times. Laundry hangs from the windows, and the Santa Luzia viewpoint looks over the rooftops to the river.

In the evening, its small restaurants host fado, the soulful song of Lisbon.
