Why Go

Above the sea of clouds, the air over Teide is dry and still, and a 1988 law protects the island's skies from light pollution. That's why the Teide Observatory has stood on a ridge here since 1964. Evening tours watch the sunset over the clouds and then point telescopes at planets and nebulae, and the observatory itself opens for guided daytime visits.

Tips

  • Bring a warm jacket: nights at 2,000 meters are near freezing even in summer.
