Mütter Museum

A fascinating, unsettling museum of medical history: skulls, specimens in jars, Einstein's brain slides and a giant colon. Not for the squeamish.

Why Go

Run by the College of Physicians of Philadelphia since 1863, the Mütter displays anatomical specimens, wax models and medical instruments in Victorian wooden cases. It treats its human remains with care, and its exhibits on disease and the body are as thought-provoking as they are strange.
