Why Go

Begun in 312 BC, the road is now the heart of a regional park. Rent a bike and ride its quiet stretches past cypresses, ruined tombs and the round Tomb of Caecilia Metella.

Beneath it run the catacombs, miles of early Christian burial tunnels. Those of San Callisto and San Sebastiano can be toured with a guide.

Tips

  • On Sundays much of the road is closed to cars, which makes it the best day to cycle.
