Why Go

Salt has been mined in the Dürrnberg above Hallein since Celtic times, and it paid for the archbishops' Salzburg. Visitors put on miners' overalls, ride a mine train, slide down wooden chutes and cross a salt lake on a raft.

A rebuilt Celtic village stands beside the mine, and the Celtic Museum in Hallein shows finds from the area.
