Getting There
Powell–Hyde cable car to Lombard Street.

Why Go

The block of Lombard between Hyde and Leavenworth streets was built with switchbacks in 1922 because the hill was too steep for cars. Walk down the steps on either side for the classic view looking down, or up from Leavenworth for the postcard shot.

Tips

  • Walking is better than driving: the line of cars waiting to drive down can be long.
