Why Go

Begun as a Moorish fortress, it was rebuilt by Christian kings in the Mudéjar style; the Palace of Pedro I, from 1364, is its jewel, with carved stucco and the Courtyard of the Maidens. It's the oldest royal palace in Europe still in use.

Its gardens of fountains, orange trees and peacocks appeared in Game of Thrones.
